What are the requirements for a domain name?
A domain name may only include letters, digits, and hyphens. The length of a domain name (without a domain extension) must not exceed 63 characters. The hyphen cannot be at the beginning or end of a domain. In addition, the hyphen cannot be both the third and fourth character in a domain name.
Many domain registries (including the .pl register) allows the registration of domains with national characters (the so-called IDNs). In the .pl domain, you can register names containing characters of the Polish alphabet (e.g. ą, ć, ę), other Latin-based alphabets, Cyrillic and Hebrew alphabet. Other domain registers may have different requirements for IDNs. Due to the necessity to encode special characters in the domain name, the maximum length of the name is shorter than 63 characters.
