Is a registered domain my property?

The registration of an Internet domain gives you the right to use the domain name, however, it does not mean that you become the perpetual owner of the domain. From a legal point of view, you are the holder of a domain, which means that nobody else can use this domain name, however, your right to it may expire if you do not pay for it on time. Just like a telephone subscription, a domain fee must be paid for subsequent billing periods (which are yearly in case of a domain), otherwise, a domain will expire and you will lose the right to use it.

Why do I need to renew my domain?

You may also lose your right to a domain name as a result of a court judgment stating that the manner of use of the domain name infringes the rights of third parties (e.g. trademark registration rights).
